about

"The music of 18262 DAYS reflects the idea that a song can tell a story without relying on traditional song structure i.e. verse/chorus/verse/chorus, with defined chords, melodies, harmonies, etc.
These pieces were begun in different places, but produced under similar circumstances. Using the same hardware, instruments, and effects unifies the final output.

I DREAM OF FUKUSHIMA - I’ve spent a lot of time in Japan, but I have never been to Fukushima, My visual knowledge of it is all from the news, and documentaries. After three nights of unusually vivid dreams about Fukushima, I composed the piece as a soundtrack for the feeling I got from those dreams.

CILDO - This song is dedicated to the great Brazilian visual artist Cildo Meireles. Seeing this artist’s work for the first time inspired me to make art right on the spot. Portable recording equipment allowed me to capture a moment in time, and commemorate the joy of finding an artist who is new to you, and whose work is this transformative.

18262 DAYS - Fifty years is a long time. This piece was made on my 18262nd day on this planet, based on sound which was recorded with varying proximity to a rotating source, to produce a series of emotive vignettes.

THIS IS WHAT TREES HEAR - A sonic experiment placing a recorder in various species of trees in a large public park."
